Defining a column in an ASCII or Excel text file import

When importing data into Working Papers, define the column headings for the imported file. Column headings, also referred to as field details, are defined in the ASCII Text File Import Wizard.

  • An ASCII file that has been imported using the ASCII Text File Import Wizard (the columns are defined in the Field Details screen of the Wizard).
  1. In the Field Details screen, click the heading of a column. A menu opens to display the various headings to choose from.
  2. Select the applicable heading for the data in that column.

Once you've selected the applicable heading for the data in the column, that heading replaces Ignore. If you want to omit certain columns of data from the import, keep the Ignore heading.

  • As a minimum, you must select the account number heading for the column containing account identifiers in the data file. The import cannot proceed until this is selected.
  • As you label each column heading, settings may appear in the lower portion of the Field Details page so you can make further specifications for that data type. For additional information, see here for details about the type of setting specified.
