Copying a Column of Cells

  1. Select a block of cells by holding Alt and dragging over the cells. To add additional cells outside of the block, click on the individual cells while holding Ctrl. The cell color changes to show that they have been selected.

  2. On the Home tab, click Copy.

  3. Position the insertion point in the new location.

  4. On the Home tab, click Paste.

  • The copied cells retain the formatting, numbering, and any calculations of the original cells. Any attempt to alter the cell properties of one cell is replicated in its duplicate cell. Therefore, if you want to modify formatting or calculations in the newly copied cells, you must renumber those cells first.
  • To quickly create statements, we recommend you create a generic column of cells with any required formatting and character attributes applicable to all cells and then to copy this column throughout the document. Next, use the block renumber feature to apply unique cell numbers for all copied cells. Any special adjustments, such as shading and underlining can then be applied on a per cell basis through modification of existing cell formatting.
