Creating an Input Cell

Any of the five types of cells can be set as input cells. Only if set as input, can the User enter information in the Form Mode. The identifier for an input cell is that the Input Cell check box be selected.

Users in the Form Mode do not have access to cell attributes such as the underline type and font. In addition, cell width may not be modified in the Form Mode. Therefore, it may be desirable when creating numeric and alphanumeric cells to use a variable cell width that expands as text or numeric values are input.

Attempts to input values other than those specified by the cell type result in error messages. For example, an alphanumeric input cell with a type of postal code accepts a maximum of 10 characters in the postal code format.

Numeric

Accepts any numeric value.

Alphanumeric

Accepts both numbers and text. The format of the alphanumeric cell is determined in the Alphanumeric Type box.

Date

Accepts a date format.

Check box

Can be selected or deselected only.

Radio button

Prompts users to activate one radio button or another.

  • A new insert cell’s default permissions are always the same as those set in the modify paragraph settings in Documents Permissions.
  • Numeric cells with input values may be set to use precision in calculations or not.
  1. Position the insertion point where you want to create the cell.

  2. On the Home tab, click Cell.

  3. Enter a unique cell number and click OK.

  4. In the Cell Type list, select the type of cell you want to create.
  5. Under Calculation Properties, select the Input Cell option.

    Note: If you are creating a radio button or check box, Input Cell is pre-selected.

  6. Enter the applicable cell properties.
  7. Click OK.
