Rounding Option

The Rounding Option dialog enables you to specify program settings for expressing numeric values. This option only applies to Connector linkages created after the option is set and does not affect existing links previously created in Word or Excel. Access this dialog from the Connector toolbar:

  • In Excel, select Tools | DDE Links | Rounding.
  • Note: Excel supports DDE for rounding but not UDF.

  • In Word, select Tools | Rounding.

This option enables the setting for Connector rounding.

Note: These settings apply to all numbers after any rounding performed in the linkage dialog.

This option enables you to express values under a common and implied order of magnitude. The order of magnitude is implied because it is not displayed. Specify the order of magnitude as one of 1's (100), 1,000's (103) or 1,000,000's (106).

For example, the resulting value for the number 1213561.99 is:

  • 1213561.99 when the implied order of magnitude is 100 (1's).
  • 1213.56199 when the implied order of magnitude is 103 (1,000's).
  • 1.21356199 when the implied order of magnitude is 106 (1,000,000's).

Note: No rounding occurs when only this option is selected.

For rounding and displaying orders of magnitude, see the option Display 000's/000,000's.

This option has two functions and applies in conjunction with the Round To setting. The values described under Round To are:

  1. Rounded according to the specified order of magnitude (for example, rounded to the nearest one for 1's or rounded to the nearest thousand for 1,000's), and then
  2. Padded with zeroes to express the order of magnitude in the resulting value.

For example, the resulting value for the number 1213561.99 is:

  • 1213562 when Round To is set to 1's.
  • 1214000 when Round To is set to 1,000's.
  • 1000000 when Round To is set to 1,000,000's.
