Record Layout

You can save layout options in a format file to be used at a future time. If you are importing an identical file, rather than re-entering the column positions or field orders, you can automatically recall the settings from the saved settings file.

Click the Browse button to locate the layout file. These files have a special extension to distinguish them from other text files. The following table shows the file extension based on the type of file and the component being imported.

Component being imported File type File extension
Chart of Accounts and General Ledger Balances Delimited .vtb
General Ledger Details Delimited .vgl
Chart of Accounts and General Ledger Balances Fixed Length .ftb
General Ledger Details Fixed Length .fgl

By selecting a layout file, the settings from that file are automatically applied, saving you time so you don't have to make selections for each option every time you import. Layout files are created by identifying the settings in the Import wizard and saving them in a file in the Completing ASCII Import Wizard page.

  1. In the ASCII File Import Welcome dialog, type or select the name and path of the format file in the Previous settings for Record Layout box.
  2. Click Next.
