About the SQL Server and ProSystem fx Engagement

Since ProSystem fx Engagement databases use the SQL data engine, ProSystem fx requires its own instance of the SQL Server. To prevent modifications to the SQL Server instance and the functionality of the program itself, we recommend installing an independent SQL Server instance on your machine prior to importing into Working Papers.

How it works

The import will require that the instance of SQL Server associated with ProSystem fx Engagement is stopped to prevent any modifications. The independent SQL Server instance will then process your Binders during the import. Once the Binders have been imported, the data will be contained in a Working Papers client file rather than the SQL database. The instance used for the import will no longer be required once the import has completed; it can be uninstalled.

SQL Server Versions and Requirements

At a minimum, the version of SQL Server installed for the import should be the same version or later than the version used by ProSystem fx Engagement to create the Binder. We recommend installing SQL Server 2008 or later and we also recommend that the latest service pack is installed.

The following are free, redistributable lightweight editions of SQL Server able to be installed on your machine:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express
