Disabling Automatic Recalculation [Excel Only]

Microsoft Excel versions 2003 and higher have an automatic recalculation function that retrieves the latest values for links in a document. Automatic recalculation can occur when the document is opened and during certain operations in the software. You can disable this function in Excel to retain the values from links since the last saved recalculation.

Disabling this function is useful for staff that do not have Connector or Working Papers installed on their workstation but who open the document for correspondences or printing purposes. If this function is not disabled when these staff members open the document, automatic recalculation takes effect and links become broken, displaying a failed connection status such as #N/A, #NAME or #VALUE.

See the procedure for your version of Excel. Ensure to save your document to retain the current set of linked values.

  1. Click Tools (on the Office toolbar) | Options | Calculation tab.
  2. Under the Calculation Options, select Manual.
  1. Select the Formulas tab.
  2. Select Manual from the Calculation Options drop down.

The document is not affected by this action. Automatic recalculation by Excel is disabled and further updates to the Working Papers client file are not reflected in this document. In addition, the Recalculation function is also disabled in Connector while this option is set to manual.

Ensure to save your document after verifying the changes.
