Activating Projects

You can activate the use of Projects and Subprojects from the Company Profile dialog. You have a number of options for customizing project interface and project functionality in Time. The Company Profile is accessible from the menu File | Company Profile.

  1. From the File menu, select Company Profile and click the Terminology tab.
  2. Set the terms you wish to use for "Project", "Subproject", "In charge", "Team leader", "Issues" and "Contract". The terms defined here are used throughout the applicable dialogs. At any time these can be changed.
  3. Click the Firm tab.
  4. Turn on Projects by clicking the "Using projects" box.
  5. After enabling projects a Project tab appears in the Company Profile. Click the Project tab.
  6. If desired, click the "Using subprojects" to activate subprojects.
  7. To require staff to assign each time or expense entry to a project, select the box Project Required for Time and Expenses.
  8. To require a user to select a project when creating an invoice, select the box Project Required for Invoices.
  9. If you are using Budgets, you can make the budget amounts entered accumulate to create the overall budget for the project automatically. To do so click the "Totals calculated from Staff budgets" box.
  10. Specify a Client Project numbering default for numbering client projects. Select the option for either a "System generated number" or "Project No mask" (for more information on client project numbering see the "Client Project numbering defaults" section here). If you want to apply different conventions for each project template select the "Change Project numbering option per Project Template" checkbox.
  11. Close the Company Profile.
