Importing work in process detail

If you have work in process detail in another Time package, you can export the balances as an ASCII text file and then import the ASCII text file into Time. This method is the most efficient and least time consuming. If you are unsure how to export the detail from the original software package, open the software package and access the online help on the Help menu. Do a search in the Index of topics for the word "export" or "ASCII" and follow any available procedures. Alternately, you can contact the Technical Support line for the software package and inquire if it is possible to export the work in process detail as an ASCII Text File.

Once you have successfully exported the balances into an ASCII Text File, you can use the Time Import feature to import the information into your file as work in process detail. See the topic Import Overview for more information.

  • If the originating software package does not have the capability to export the existing opening balances as an ASCII text file, you must enter time and expenses manually. Show me
  • Time checks to see if you are importing transactions for inactive clients where the transaction date falls after the inactive date. If this is the case, Time warns you and does not import the applicable transactions.
