SmartSync FAQ
How are files stored in the client file folder, but not in the Document Manager handled by SmartSync?
All files in the client folder, and subfolders, are included in the uploaded compressed file. Files not in the Document Manager are not updated.
For example, a Word document is placed in the client file folder, but not in the Document Manager before publishing. The client file is published. All sync copies created from the parent will contain the Word document. All users can open the Word document and update it via Windows Explorer. These changes are not sent to the parent file, and so will not be seen by the other sync copies
Does SmartSync support FTP?
SmartSync does not support FTP. SmartSync requires byte level file locking which FTP does not support.
What ports are open during the SmartSync installation?
Installing Working Papers with SmartSync opens firewall port 50412 for CaseWare SmartSync Presence Information. This is required for Working Papers to pass SmartSync information to other workstations on the local network. This information includes the list of users accessing SmartSync copies of a client file as well as the documents within those copies that are currently open.
If you chose not to open the port, no information about SmartSync copies will be displayed in the user list window.
Is there a tool available to publish a batch of files?
No. All files must be published individually.
