Import Wizard - Specify Record Length (ASCII files only)

You have specified the import file has fixed length records. In this wizard screen you can specify additional properties of your fixed length file and choose to exclude certain records from the import.

This procedure applies only to ASCII files.

  1. Specify a numeric value for Length of each record in the file. The preview window adjusts the break points between records (rows).

Recall that fixed length records define a set number of characters per value. Click here for more information.

  2. Click the check box Re-align Records to have the wizard automatically determine the length of each record.
  3. For Exclude First, specify the number of rows at the top of the file to omit. These rows can be unwanted headers.
  4. For Exclude Last, specify the number of rows at the bottom of the file to omit. These rows can be unwanted footers.
  5. Use the preview pane to ignore certain rows in the import. Click the check boxes beside each row to exclude those records.
  6. Click Next.
