About the Maintenance Features

Working Papers has many features to help maintain your client file. Use the maintenance features to do the following:

  • Clean out unused account and user setting information
  • Repair files
  • Create backup files
  • Restore backup files
  • Run diagnostics to fix out of balance entries

You can choose the maintenance features that you want to use in your client file. The maintenance features use the Maintenance Wizard and the Repair File, Diagnostics, and Back Up commands. Each of these provide you with different options for maintaining your file ensuring that your client file is clean, error free, and up to date.

How it Works

Using the Maintenance Wizard

The Maintenance Wizard cleans out unused account and user setting information by performing various maintenance routines. The Maintenance Wizard allows you to remove unused accounts, manage document links, delete milestones, delete synchronized copies of files, and undo sign outs and check outs.

For detailed information about the Maintenance Wizard and the work flow of the wizard, see here.

Using the Repair File Feature

The Repair File feature finds and corrects errors within your client file by reindexing databases, renumbering databases, reposting entries, and/or recalculating file balances.

For more information, see About file repairs and Performing a File Repair.

Running Diagnostics

Run diagnostics to find issues within your client file; use the diagnostics report for out of balance entries to maintain your file. This report indicates any entries that are out of balance and provides you with the location of the entries so they can be fixed.

For more information, see Fixing out of balance entries.

Creating and Restoring Backup Files

The Back Up command creates a backup copy of client files in the form of a compressed copy. Once you have used the backup function to create a backup copy of your client file, you will be able to easily restore the client file from this backup copy.

For more information, see Making a backup copy of a client file and Restoring a backed up copy of a client file.

Other Considerations

Some of the options for this feature are not available in Working Papers with SmartSync.
