Restoring a Backed Up Copy of a Client File

Working Papers offers a backup function to create compressed copies of client files. Once you have used the backup function to create a backup copy of your client file, you will be able to easily restore the file from this backed up copy.

  • If Protection is activated, you require the File right, Open client file directly, to perform this operation.
  • A back up copy of the client file that you want to restore >>How Do I?
  1. Locate the backup copy of your client file.

    • The default location is the client data directory and the file has the same name as the client directory. For example, if the client file is called ABCLTD, then the backup file is ABCLTD.ac. Copy the backup file to the client directory if it is not already there.
  2. Open Working Papers.
  3. In Working Papers, select File | Open.
  4. Navigate to the location of your back up file as determined in Step 1 and click Open.

The backed up file will decompress automatically once opened in Working Papers. The files will be restored to the same state as they were prior to the backup.

  • When a SmartSync file is backed up using the Working Papers back up feature and the Include sync folder check box is checked then the _Sync folder is included in the backup and is renamed to _Sync_. If the SmartSync file is restored, it should be restored to its original location once all outstanding sync copies have been deleted. The _Sync_ folder that is also restored should then be renamed to _Sync. Failure to rename this folder could result in the creation of and additional _Sync folder when a Sync child is created from the file.
  • If you are restoring a parent file from a backup, ensure that both the parent and any child copies that exist are opened and online in order to allow the child copies to provide any sync events that have been generated since the backup was made. If the opportunity exists, the best practice is to generate new Sync children from the restored parent file.
