Linkage Dialog

The Linkage dialog establishes a live connection with the client file to return the latest values from the Working Papers database. The client file is noted in the dialog header for reference.

The linkage protocol is noted in the dialog header for reference (DDE or UDF).

The category selected will determine the available options in the drop downs and will automatically populate the Results Pane with the applicable Working Papers information.

The linkage drop downs and buttons are used to filter the results displayed in the Results Pane. Use these controls to refine and specify values returned in the result set.

As the result set is filtered, the results are displayed in the results pane. You can sort the table columns by clicking the column header: once for ascending, again for descending, and a third time to remove the sort. Bolded column headings contain information which may be linked through Connector, such as values and descriptions. For columns where the heading is not bold, you can only add the value itself to your document.

Additionally, hovering over a value in the results pane will open a tooltip window showing the potential formula and resulting value:

Clicking on a value automatically populates the Linkage bar with the appropriate formula.

Right click on a value in the Results Pane to bring up the context menu:

• Select Link Formula to enter the formula that is applicable to the selected value into the cell.

• Select Link Data to link the value itself to the cell without the formula. Certain values (account numbers, for example) cannot be linked by formula and the context menu will only list the Link Data option.

  Note: The value will be pulled into Word or Excel as a static value (not a link). Any edits made to this value must be done manually through Word or Excel.

The bottom bar in the dialog is referred to as the linkage bar. From left to right, the linkage bar displays:

• The current selected cell (Excel only)
• Buttons for cancel link () and accept link ()
• The resulting Connector function based on the value selected from the results pane and the resulting value.

Note: You can type, combine, and modify formulas in the linkage bar. As you type, the results box will show the results of the formula in real-time and will indicate any errors. Once accepted, a linkage formula is created in the Word or Excel document.
