Connect all Peers to the external drive using the LAN ports. If there are not enough cables then alternate connections between peers. Ensure that the external drive is connected for these following steps:

Tip: Extend the number of connections by using a hub.

  1. Open Working Papers.
  2. From the File tab, select Open and then select Computer.
  3. Navigate to the external drive. You can do this one of two ways:
    • Navigate to Network and locate the drive, or
    • Type in the IP address of the drive (e.g. \\123.456.7.8).
  4. Locate the Top Level Parent Engagement File and select check box to create a Child synchronized copy on your local drive.

Tip: You can check or set your Smart Sync default path in the General Options Dialog.

After a peer connection is established, Working Papers SmartSync can be used regularly. When connected to the external drive, the Parent can verify the users synchronized to the sync copy by accessing Properties on the Sync toolbar. Once peers have located the sync copy, it will be displayed in their synchronization drop-down menu below the parent file location. As long as the synchronized copy is shared on the drive, the sync copy will be shared and peers will be able to access the file.

Working Online

While connected to the external drive, Peers will always be Online. Choose to work Offline if there are not enough connections available to the external drive. You can re-connect at a later time to synchronize your copy.

  • When using a peer connection, CaseView exclusive locks do not work.
