Importing from Bedford Simply Accounting DOS

If you would like to import from a version of Bedford not supported by Working Papers, you can import the Bedford files in an ASCII text file format. To do this, see Importing Bedford files in ASCII text file format.

If importing from Bedford Simply Accounting version 3.3, the required files include:

File Containing...
SN3.REC Profile information
GN3.REC Trial balance
JOURNAL3.REC General ledger detail (optional)

If importing from Bedford Simply Accounting version 4.0, the required files include:

File Containing...
SN4.REC Profile information
GN4.REC Trial balance
JOURNAL4.REC General ledger detail (optional)
  • If Protection is activated, the File permission "Import" is required to perform this operation.
  1. Open the client file in which you want to import.

  2. On the Engagement tab, in the Data group, click Import | Accounting Software.

  3. In the Import Fromfield, select Bedford Simply Acct DOS and in the Version field, select the version of Bedford that you want to import.

    Note: Click here to see all accounting software supported versions.

  4. In the Import Path field, type the exact path where the file you want to import resides or use Browse to locate the file manually.

  5. Under Import Components, choose to import either:

    • The Trial Balance (Opening Entries) or,
    • The General Ledger Detail.
  6. To import client information, click Import Client Information. This information will be displayed in the Engagement Properties dialog.

  7. Click OK to begin importing.

Accounting data is imported into the client file.
