Importing from Microsoft Dynamics GP

Working Papers imports data from Microsoft Dynamics GP versions 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016. If you do not have Microsoft Dynamics GP installed and you want to import data directly from that application into Working Papers, use the procedure in this topic.

  • SQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 2 installed locally on the machine performing the import (for more information, see Imports and the SQL Server).
  • Two database backup files from Microsoft Dynamics GP, copied to the same local folder:
    1. A system database backup file named DYNAMICS.BAK.
    2. A company database backup file with the extension BAK, for example, MyCompany.BAK.

For more on creating the required .bak files, see Creating a .bak Database Backup File.

Note: The .BAK files must be placed in a local folder that the program (CWIN32.EXE) has full access rights to. For example, do not put the import files into the C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName% folder as Working Papers does not have full access rights to this directory.

  • If Protection is activated, the File permission "Import" is required to perform this operation.
  1. Open the client file in which you want to import.

  2. On the Engagement tab, in the Data group, click Import | Accounting Software.

  3. In the Import From field, select Microsoft Dynamics GP and in the Version field, select the default version (8.0/9.0/10.0/2010/2013/2015/2016).

Note: Click here to see all accounting software supported versions.

  4. In the Import Path field, type the exact path where the file you want to import resides or use Browse to locate the file manually.

  5. Under Import Components, choose to import either:

    • The Trial Balance (Opening Entries) or,
    • The General Ledger Detail.
  6. To import client information, click Import Client Information. This information will be displayed in the Engagement Properties dialog.

  7. Complete the remaining fields of the dialog. >>Quick Reference
  8. Click OK to begin importing.

Note: The Unit Accounts are not imported into Working Papers.

Accounting data is imported into the client file.
