Importing from King Dee

Depending on the version of King Dee you would like to import from, the Trial Balance and the General Ledger Detail may be imported.

  • Use the export module in King Dee to create an export file.
  • SQL server

The required King Dee Accounting files for K/3 V10.x include:

  • General Ledger Detail

The required King Dee Accounting files for Hong Kong 2003 include:

  • If Protection is activated, the File permission "Import" is required to perform this operation.
  1. Open the client file in which you want to import.

  2. On the Engagement tab, in the Data group, click Import | Accounting Software.

  3. In the Import From field, select King Dee and in the Version field, select the version of King Dee that you want to import.

    Note: Click here to see all accounting software supported versions.

  4. In the Import Path field, type the exact path where the file you want to import resides or use Browse to locate the file manually.

  5. Under Import Components, choose to import either:

    • The Trial Balance (Opening Entries) or,
    • The General Ledger Detail.

    Note: King Dee Hong Kong 2003 will import Trial Balance (Opening Entries) only.

  6. To import client information, click Import Client Information. This information will be displayed in the Engagement Properties dialog.

  7. In the Select Client ID File, select the King Dee text file to be imported. For K/3 V10.x imports, this file will have the extension .bak, while for Hong Kong 2003, this file will have the extension .txt.
  8. If importing from K/3 V10.x:

    Connect to the SQL Server used with the accounting software that you are importing from. If you don't have this information, contact your database administrator.

    • Server - The name of the SQL Database server.
    • User/Password - The login and password used for the server.
  9. Click OK to begin importing.

Accounting data is imported into the client file.
