Actions Available in the Locked Down File

When the file is locked down, there are many actions that can still be performed as outlined in this topic.

Action You will be able to...
Opening and Editing Files/Documents
  • Open the locked documents in the file as read-only without unlocking the file.
  • Edit documents that were kept active. See Keeping Documents Active within a Locked Down File.
  • Unlock the client file so you can make changes to the file. You must first type a password (if lockdown was set with a password) and a reason for opening the file.
    • When changes are made to the content of a document, the changed document is underlined in red in the Document Manager.
    • Auto-Compare will look at external documents (Word, Excel, PDF) and underline the file names in red if changes are made to them.
  • Add documents to a locked file. When a document is added, a history entry is automatically created and you must type a reason for adding the document. See Adding Documents to a Locked File.
Back up Back up the file
History Check the history for the activities in the file (Engagement | History)
Sign out/Sign in and Check out/check in

Check in the checked out documents if the file is signed out or checked out.

Note: After a file has passed the document completion date and lockdown occurs, the file cannot be unlocked until all files checked out before lockdown occurred have been checked in.

Export Export the file
Tax Create and modify tax export codes in the Tax tab of the Working Trial Balance.
Engagement Properties Change the tax entity where the tax jurisdiction is set to USA.
