Automatic Project Numbering Behavior

Use this topic to understand the system behavior when you change numbering defaults while you have existing client projects.

If you change the numbering default while you have existing client projects, you may be prompted to update all existing client project numbers. The following table outlines all the different scenarios when modifying defaults and the system behavior based on your decisions:

Changing the option "Change Project numbering option per Project Template"

Note: This scenario updates any existing client project numbers that use a project mask to, instead, use a system generated number. No changes are made to the numbering default. Year identifier in project number mask

When the project year is changed all client project numbers need to be updated to reflect the change in the year. Depending on how you associated the year to the year identifier, if you attempt to change the default project number mask year or the default year in the Company Profile, you receive the following message:

Changing the year will change all client project numbers due to year being used in the mask. Continue Y/N?

If you want to update the year select Yes, otherwise select No.

If removing the project template year, you receive the following message:

Project no mask contains year. Need year in template or default year of mask.

Change the project template year or specify a default year for the project mask.
