Repairing your Time file
Repairing the file even when all seems fine fixes any data corruption that can be caused during a file freeze and reboot.
Files should be re-indexed whenever you get an error message in order to ensure the data integrity of the files. Re-indexing refreshes the data in your database and the paths needed to retrieve this data.
When attempting to reindex a Time file, make sure that all users are out of Time first. If someone still has the program open, you will receive an error message and the process will not complete properly.
- First, check the User Logged In dialog to ensure that all users are logged out.
- Back up your Time database (Tools | Maintenance | Backup/Restore). Performing a backup will allow Technical Support to review problems in the file if you need to contact CaseWare for further assistance.
- On the Tools menu, click Maintenance.
-
Select the command for the operation you want Time to perform.
Server Maintenance Gauge the performance of the database and run regular database maintenance. Maintenance options can be scheduled to run automatically if you are using Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express.
Select one or more of the following options:
- Reindex Database
- Benchmark
- Update Statistics
- Check Integrity
Repost
Select this command to repost all transactions in the file.
Additional information about performing a repost.Recalculate WIP
Select this command to make changes to the staff rates retroactive to the beginning of the current active period.
Changing staff rates normally affects only the time entered from that point forward. However, if the rate change is made part way through the period, it may be necessary to make the rate change retroactive to the beginning of the period for all transactions entered during that period. A recalculate recalculates only unbilled transactions for the current period forward.
Approved time does not change.
Repair
Select this to repair work, classification and billing setup codes. Time looks for missing codes, duplicates, right justification problems, illegal characters and codes in lower case.
Notes
- Large files will take longer to repair than small files.
