Time File Maintenance

For optimum performance of Time, we recommend that you carry out the following on a regular basis:

Keep monthly, weekly and daily backups of your data files. In case of corruption to the files, you could then restore a backup file. Please test your backup system from time to time to ensure it is operating properly.

We strongly recommend running diagnostics reports in all available areas on a weekly basis to check for errors or inconsistencies. Time diagnostics present critical errors, errors and warning messages to alert you to areas in the file that are missing information, that contain conflicting information, or that are not functioning properly. For information about correcting diagnostic errors, refer to the Diagnostics Index. The index is a list of every diagnostic error for which Time checks. Pressing F1 while viewing a diagnostic document accesses the Diagnostics Index.

If any discrepancies should occur, run file maintenance.

Note: There may be some problems reported in diagnostics that you may not be able to correct. In this case contact Technical Support for assistance. If the errors are not corrected in the file, it may affect the accounts receivable and work in process balances.

Information has been gathered from various sources regarding how to avoid data corruption in shared files. These suggestions apply to any application that shares files on a server. To access recommendations and requirements for proper maintenance of your data files, visit www.caseware.com. Navigate to the Support area and then the Troubleshooting section. Find your type of network and apply the suggestions given.

If at any point while working in the Time file users notice error messages referring to certain files or if there are any network problems (crashes) while the Time file is open, please run file maintenance.

If the errors continue to occur, stop working in the file and call Technical Support immediately for assistance.

  • When attempting to run maintenance on a Time file, make sure that all users are out of Time first. If someone still has the program open, you will receive an error message and the process will not complete properly.
  • Running maintenance on the file even when all seems fine helps avoid the data corruption that can be caused during a file freeze and reboot.
