Context Menus Dialog

This screen contains all the controls necessary for creating, editing and choosing a user-defined menu for a cell, table row, or paragraph. For cells, this screen is available only when Left or Right is selected in the Menu list in the cell's general settings.

Menus

Displays the name of the currently selected menu. Other menus (if available) can be selected from the drop-down list.

Menu

Click the button to add, copy, rename or delete a menu.

New

Creates a new menu. Type a name for the new menu in the Menu Definition box.

Copy

Creates a new menu from an existing one by selecting copy. Use the rename function to change the name to one of your choosing.

Rename

Renames an existing menu. Select the menu to be renamed from the drop-down list of existing menus, type a new name for it in the Menu Definition box, and click OK. CaseView prompts the user to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm.

Delete

Deletes the selected menu from the list of existing menus.

To turn a menu off, do not delete the name from the selection box. For menus created in cells, click the General cell options and in the Menu list, select None. For menus created in table rows or paragraphs, in the Context Menu list, select None. The menu remains available for future use.

Note: If deleting a menu, a warning displays if the menu is attached to another object in the document.

File

Click to load or save a file of menus.

Load

Loads an existing context menu file (*.cmf) into the document. When loaded, all the defined context menus are listed in the menu definition box and users can select the menus from the Menu definition drop-down list. Loaded menus can be edited or changed as desired.

Menus in the loaded file are appended to any existing context menu definitions already in the client file. If there is any naming conflict between existing and loaded definitions, the program prompts the user whether to overwrite existing definitions with the loaded files.

Save

Saves all existing context menus found in the client file into a context menu file (*.cmf). When clicked, the Save as dialog appears so that the file can be given a name and saved in a convenient location. Once saved, the context menus can be loaded into another client file using the Load button while in an object with the Context Menu option enabled.

Title

Type a title for the new menu. Click to build a calculation that creates the menu's title from information in Working Papers.

Version

Type or select the version number of the menu you created in the cell. This tool is used to prevent you from overwriting the previously created menu of the same name.

Test

Displays a preview of the selected menu. When you click Test, CaseView verifies all the details of the selected menu and returns an error message if there are errors in any of the menu items. Menus with errors will not display. Use this button to check the correctness of all calculations and actions before exiting the dialog box.

The message "Cyclic Menu Definition" appears in the test menu for menus with sub menus set up like so:

Menu 1

– Item 1

- Item 2
- Submenu "Menu 2"

Menu 2

- Item 1
- Submenu "Menu 1"

Items

Insert

Click to add a new menu item.

Delete

Click to delete a highlighted menu item.

Up

Click to move a highlighted menu up one position on the list of menu items. This reorders the list of menu items on the menu.

Down

Click to move a highlighted menu up one position on the list of menu items. This reorders the list of menu items on the menu.

Item Type

Allows the user to set the type of menu items.

Action

Creates a menu item that executes a series of actions when clicked.

Submenu

Creates a sub-menu to an existing menu item. Sub-menus are indicated by showing a right arrow on the menu pointing to the sub-menu. Sub-menus are defined by selecting a menu from the provided list. Since the current menu cannot be selected, there must be at least two menus defined, one main menu and a sub menu, to select for an item in the main menu. If no text is entered for the selected sub-menu entry, CaseView attempts to use the menu's title. In this case, the title must be surrounded by double-quotes (").

Separator

Draws a separator line within the right menu being created.

CaseView Context Menu

Inserts a sub-menu containing all of the default CaseView context options, such as the override indicator, paragraph options, or section options, to name a few. Leaving the "Text" field blank will add the default context options to the top level of the menu instead of adding them to a sub-menu.

Edit Action

Edits action menu items.

Text

Type in the text to be displayed on the menu item.

Skip Condition

Type a skip condition for the menu item. Skip is the standard skip condition on whether to skip that item (1=Yes). If all the menu items meet the skip criteria, the menu will not display. Click to create a condition using the Calculation Editor.

Disable Condition

Type a disable condition to disable the menu item without hiding it. It will appear grayed out and its actions will not be activated when it is selected. Click to create a condition using the Calculation Editor.

Check Condition

Activates a condition field. When the condition becomes true, the menu item will have a check next to it.

Default

Bolds action items to indicate a default selection (for example on double-click triggers the default selection for objects in the explorer – right-click a file and "open" is bolded). To set an action as the default, select it in the list and click the Default Action box.

Notes

  • The menu selected when exiting this dialog box becomes active on the cell.
  • These menus are available only in the Form Mode (with or without Editing Enabled).
  • When using a reference as a cell menu item, any optional hyphen characters in the text will be stripped out before displaying.
