Boxes tab - Section dialog

Adds boxes or shading to text or columns. Multiple boxes can be applied to each section. To create boxes or shading, first select the paragraph(s) containing the text or columns to be shaded or outlined with a box.

Definition

Select box and shading parameters.

Left Position

Type or select the position of the left border of the box based on the horizontal ruler.

Right Position

Type or select the position of the right border of the box based on the horizontal ruler.

Distance from top of section

Type or select the distance from the top of the selected area to the box itself. Use negative values to lower the top outline within the section.

Distance from bottom of section

Type or select the distance from the top of the contents of the box to the box itself. Use negative values to move the bottom outline up within the section.

Line thickness

Type or select the border thickness expressed in points (1/72 inch). Thicknesses can range from 0.1 pts to 99 pts. To apply shading without an outline, set the Line Thickness box to zero. If a border is selected, a B displays before the box settings in the list.

Top of box

Click to draw a line at the top of the box. If selected, the border is placed at the position specified in the Distance from top of section box.

Bottom of box

Click to draw a line at the bottom of the box. If selected, the border is placed at the position specified in the Distance from bottom of section box.

Left side

Click to draw a line at the left side of the box. If selected, the border is placed at the position specified in the Left Position box.

Right side

Click to draw a line at the right side of the box. If selected, the border is placed at the position specified in the Right Position box.

Shading color

To apply shading to the measurements specified above, click the down arrow next to the color to open the color-selection dialog and set the color for the selected cells. If shading is selected, an S displays before the box settings in the list.

Skip Condition

Boxes can be hidden on selected pages. Enter a logical skip condition to hide the box when the skip criteria are met.

New box

Click to create a new box within the selected paragraph(s).

Delete box

To delete a box within the section, select the specifications for the box to be deleted and click Delete box.

Delete all

Click to delete all boxes in the selected area.

Notes

  • To view the box(es) and shading applied, from the File tab, click Print, and then click Print Preview. Boxes and shading are not visible in the Form or the Design Mode.
