Creating a Vertical Line Between Columns of Text

  1. Select the first column.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Content group, click Section | Boxes.
  3. Click New box.
  4. In the Right position box, type select the vertical position of the line using the horizontal ruler as a guideline. For example, if the first column ends at 5" on the horizontal ruler, enter 5.2 in the Right position box.
  5. In the Distance from top of section box, type or select the vertical distance from the top of the section.
  6. In the Distance from bottom of section box, type or select the vertical distance from the bottom of the section to where you want the line to end.
  7. In the Line thickness box, type or select the thickness of the line.
  8. Clear the Top of box, Bottom of box, and Left side options. The vertical line is supposed to display on the right side of the first column, so only the Right side check box should be selected.
  9. Click OK.

  • This technique is useful if you are using two-column printing.
