Style Sheet command

Use this dialog to review existing styles and apply the styles to selected text. Clicking the New button allows access to the New Style dialog where new styles are created. Clicking Modify accesses the Format Style dialog where changes can be made to existing styles.

Styles

Select the name of the style you want to change or that you want to base the new style being created on.

Where the Styles list shows multiple levels, you can expand or collapse levels to find styles.

To make it easier to find an already created style, press Ctrl+F. When the Find dialog opens, enter the search criteria.

Find what

Type the words you are looking for; this can be the full style name or a partial style name.

Match whole word only

To treat the text entered in the Find what box as a complete word and not part of a larger word, select Match whole word only.

Match case

To find only those occurrences with the exact combination of uppercase and lowercase letters specified in the Find what box, select the Match case option.

Direction

Choose the direction to search: up or down.

Each search item that is found is highlighted for quick identification.

Paragraph Preview

Displays a thumbnail of the selected paragraph's appearance showing spacing between lines and indenting.

Character Preview

Displays an example of the default font of the paragraph selected.

Style Sheets

Click to access the Style Sheet Organizer screen. Using this dialog, the user can delete and rename existing styles. In addition, it provides an easy way to copy files between documents and client files.

New

Click to create a new style. If you wish to create a new style based on an existing style, highlight the existing style in the style list before clicking New. See Creating New Styles for more information.

Modify

Click to modify the highlighted style, the Format Style dialog appears. See To change the format of a style by using the Style Sheet command for details on how to configure the style settings. In the Modify screen, you can change existing styles to base the style on other styles, thus creating a hierarchy of "cascading styles". For more information, see About Cascading styles.

Delete

Click to remove the selected style from the document. If attempting to delete a style that is in use in the document, you will be asked which style should be used to replace that style. You cannot delete the built-in default style "Normal".

Apply Styles

When you have updated one or more styles in the Style dialog, click this button to apply the changes to paragraphs using those styles throughout the document. A style selection list will open.

Cancel

Select to close the dialog without applying changes.
