Setting up a Rounding Relation

  1. On the Tools tab, click Rounding.

  2. Select Apply Rounding and Apply Rounding Relations.

  3. In the Round To list, select to round figures in the document to ones, thousands, or millions of currencies.

  4. Click Add to create a new rounding relation.
  5. Type or select the cell to be used for the difference cells, that is cells 1 and 2 in the rounding formula.
  6. Type or select the cell to be used as the plug cell (Cell 3) in the rounding formula. The difference between cells 1 and 2 will be added into the plug cell.
  7. In the Identifier box, enter a brief description of the rounding relation. An identifier can include, for example, references to the cell numbers in the rounding relation. This is used internally to identify the rounding relation.
  8. In the Display Label box, type a description that will be displayed in the Recalculation Error dialog each time a rounding error occurs to help identify the area of the document that contains the error. The display label is also used as a unique identifier for the rounding relation during knowledge library updates. Users have the option in the Section dialog on the Label tab to specify the rounding relations that should be updated during an update for each section based on this label.

Note: We recommend using display labels for all rounding relations. With a label attached, when a cell is renumbered, the label is updated correctly during knowledge library updates.

  9. Repeat steps 3 through 8 to complete rounding relations for the entire CaseView document.
  10. Ensure the Apply Rounding and the Apply rounding relations options are selected to activate rounding in the document.
  11. If applicable, select Allow Enabling and Disabling of Rounding in Form Mode and/or Allow Enabling and Disabling of Rounding Relations in Form Mode to allow the user to turn the rounding criteria on or off while in the Form Mode.

Notes

  • Rounding affects only those cells linked to the Working Papers or Time database. It does not affect ordinary numeric cells in the statements.
  • In the Rounding Relations dialog box you can now jump to the cells identified in a given relation. New buttons with down arrows are located to the right of each difference and plug cell field. Click one and CaseView jumps to the cell listed in the field. When multiple plug cells are selected, a menu will appear providing a list of available plug cells to jump to. If the cells are hidden, CaseView will not jump to the cell's location.
