XBRL Instance Preview Dialog

When exporting an XBRL file, you can see a preview of the instance document. You can see either a presentation view or a calculation view.

To find information quicker in either dialogs, you can:

  • Expand or collapse the taxonomy list
  • Press Ctrl+F to find specific information

Presentation View

You can view the details of an instance document before you export it. Each element in the taxonomy is displayed along with the associated values that have been tagged in the CaseView document. You can view the details by the different contexts or unit of measure/numeric options associated with the tagged element.

Viewing the details of the instance document

  1. Click File | Export | XBRL File.
  2. Complete the options in the wizard until you are at the XBRL Export Summary dialog.
  3. Click Preview Document. The details are displayed.

See the table below for descriptions of the different fields and options.

Calculation View

When exporting an XBRL file, diagnostics are displayed in the XBRL Diagnostics dialog. Tagged numeric items in the document are checked to see if they sum up correctly based on the taxonomy's calculation linkbase. If any are out of balance, they are displayed in the Diagnostics list with a description of the error and the severity of the problem. You can select the calculation error to correct any tagging errors.

In Calculation View, each taxonomy element is displayed with the value from the CaseView document (under Given Value) and the value calculated using the taxonomy’s calculation linkbase (under Calculated Value). Values in red indicate that the two values do not match.

Correcting a calculation error

  1. Click File | Export | XBRL File.
  2. Complete the options in the wizard until you are at the XBRL Diagnostics dialog.
  3. From the Diagnostics list, select the calculation error and click Correct. The XBRL Instance Preview – Calculation View dialog opens.
  4. Locate the item that needs to be fixed.

Values in red indicate that the value in the CaseView document does not match the calculated value based on the taxonomy’s calculation linkbase.

To navigate through multiple errors, you can select a different option under Context/Unit of Measure or you can use the options from the Next navigation drop-down.

If there is specific information you are looking for, click the Tools drop-down and select Find.

You can also:

  • Click Correct. The XBRL Document Tagging dialog opens highlighting the area that needs to be fixed.

  • Remove or change the tag as needed.
