Assigning Cells to an Accumulator Group

Accumulator groups are useful there is a long columns of figures separated by page breaks that should be subtotaled and appear at the bottom of each page and carry forward to the top of the following page. This is accomplished by assigning cells in the column to an accumulator group and creating a special footer to display the accumulated totals.

  1. Select the column of cells you want to assign to the accumulator group by pressing Alt and dragging over the cells. The cell color changes to show that they have been selected. This method of selecting content isolates only the cells in the selection area, as opposed to a standard click and drag which will highlight all document contents.

To add additional cells outside of the block, click on the individual cells while holding Ctrl. The individual cell colors change as they are selected.

  2. On the Home tab, select Cell.
  3. In the Accumulator Group box, select the accumulator group you want to assign to the selected cells. The accumulator group selected here must match the accumulator group created in the cell in the carry forward footer. Do not select the Accumulator Total check box.
  4. Click OK
  5. On the File tab, click Print | Print Preview to view the accumulated totals.

Notes

  • If additional figures are added to the column, they can be easily assigned to the accumulator group and the subtotals will adjust accordingly.
  • This procedure enables accumulated figures to appear in the carry forward cells. Steps 1 and 2 of Accumulating Columns of Figures must be completed before it is possible to complete these procedures.
